cattle是单数照样复数

cattle是单复数同形，复数形式也是cattle。cattle原意是“财富”,厥后转义为“家畜”，常指菜牛或奶牛。在英国通常统指“家畜”，在美国则只指“牛类”。cattle是聚集名词，不能加不定冠词a，词尾也不能加s，常和many,few,these,those等连用。用作主语时，句子的谓语动词多用复数。

此题容易误选A，想当然地认为cattle是单数，并且空格有表单数的one，自然谓语动词用is。其实，正确答案为B。cattle为集合名词，尽管它不带复数词尾-s，却永远表示复数意义，若用作主语，谓语要用复数。事实上，牛是导致这个问题的原因之一。
